Giving the Site a Bit More Life

I’ve been doing a bit of thinking about the website recently, and if I’m honest… it’s been feeling a little plain.

A few people have mentioned it — in a nice way — that while the recipes are clear and easy to follow, it could do with a bit more life. More colour, more personality… more food you can actually see. And they’re right. Recipes without images can feel a bit like reading instructions without context. You know what to do, but you don’t quite feel it.

So I’ve started working on updating things.

Nothing too drastic, just gradually adding more photos to recipes, showing the process, the ingredients, and most importantly, the finished dish. Because let’s be honest — we eat with our eyes first. A good image can make you want to cook something before you’ve even read the first line.

It’s funny, really. I’ve always focused on keeping things simple and easy to read, but in doing that, I might have stripped things back a little too far. There’s a balance somewhere between clean and… well, a bit boring.

The goal now is to keep that simplicity, but add a bit of warmth back in. A bit more of the kitchen, a bit more of the food, a bit more of the feeling that you’re actually there while it’s being made.

It’ll take a bit of time — I’ll be updating things as I go — but it already feels like a step in the right direction.

Funny how a small change like adding a few photos can make everything feel more alive again.

I hope you get chance to cook something that makes you smile this week.
